TO COMMEND LEVON KIRKLAND OF THE TOWN OF LAMAR IN DARLINGTON COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS AS A HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER, ON BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER FOR THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE'S PITTSBURGH STEELERS, AND FOR HIS PERFORMANCE IN SUPER BOWL XXX.
Whereas, Levon Kirkland was born in the Town of Lamar in Darlington County on February 17, 1969; and
Whereas, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leverne Kirkland who reside in the Town of Lamar; and
Whereas, Levon graduated from Lamar High School in 1987; and
Whereas, he was enrolled at Clemson University in 1987; and
Whereas, Levon played football at Clemson University as an outside linebacker from 1988 to 1991; and
Whereas, he ranks fourth in Clemson's history with nineteen quarterback sacks; and
Whereas, Levon won the most valuable player award his sophomore year at Clemson University for his performance in the 1989 Gator Bowl; and
Whereas, he is currently a middle linebacker for the National Football League's Pittsburgh Steelers; and
Whereas, Levon led the American Football Conference Champion Pittsburgh Steelers with ten tackles during Super Bowl XXX. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend Levon Kirkland for his outstanding achievements as a football player at Lamar High School and Clemson University, for his fine accomplishments as a professional football player for the National Football League's Pittsburgh Steelers, and for his outstanding performance in Super Bowl XXX.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Levon Kirkland.
