RECOGNIZING AND HONORING THE GOVERNOR'S FROG JUMP FESTIVAL AT SPRINGFIELD IN ORANGEBURG COUNTY ON ITS THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY.
Whereas, the thirtieth annual Governor's Frog Jump Festival will be held Saturday, April 6, 1996, at Springfield in Orangeburg County; and
Whereas, this festival started in the 1960's at the State House in Columbia under Governor McNair and was later transferred to Springfield as the host site; and
Whereas, serving as grand marshals for the 1996 festival are Greg Williams, Bubba Wilde, and (posthumously) Neil Bonnette; these gentlemen had the festival's winning frog in 1968, the last year the festival was held at the State House; Neil Bonnette is now deceased; therefore, his father, Mr. Clarence Bonnette, will represent him at this year's festival; and
Whereas, the Honorable Kathleen Fanning is the Mayor of Springfield; and
Whereas, the Governor's Frog Jump Festival is one of the Palmetto State's most enduring festivals, as well as one of the most popular; and
Whereas, the entire community of Springfield is excited about hosting this thirtieth annual event, and the festival, as always, should prove to be great fun for everyone who attends. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and honors the Governor's Frog Jump Festival at Springfield in Orangeburg County on its thirtieth anniversary.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Town of Springfield, in care of Mayor Kathleen Fanning.
