CONGRATULATING MR. MARK BRYAN, MR. DEAN FELBER, MR. DARIUS RUCKER, AND MR. JIM "SONI" SONEFELD, ALL MEMBERS OF THE MUSICAL GROUP, HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH, FOR BRINGING RECOGNITION TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA THROUGH THEIR EFFORTS AND SUCCESS AS PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS.
Whereas, the musical group, Hootie and the Blowfish, has attained multi-platinum status for sales of its album, "Cracked Rear View"; and
Whereas, the group received the Best New Artist award from MTV and also received the Best New Artist award from Billboard magazine; and
Whereas, the group was nominated as Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards and has been recognized by the music industry by receiving Grammy awards for "Best Pop Song by a Vocal Group or Duo" and for "Best New Group"; and
Whereas, Columbia residents Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, Darius Rucker, and Jim "Soni" Sonefeld comprise this fantastic musical group and have brought positive recognition and accolades to the Palmetto State through their talent and success. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Mr. Mark Bryan, Mr. Dean Felber, Mr. Darius Rucker, and Mr. Jim "Soni" Sonefeld, all members of the musical group, Hootie and the Blowfish, for bringing recognition to the State of South Carolina through their efforts and success as professional musicians.
Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Mark Bryan, Mr. Dean Felber, Mr. Darius Rucker, and Mr. Jim "Soni" Sonefeld.
