A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ARTHUR G. DANTZLER OF CAYCE FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF CAYCE, THE COUNTY OF LEXINGTON, AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN THE FIELDS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, FIREFIGHTING, AND PUBLIC SAFETY, AND WISHING HIM MANY YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Arthur G. Dantzler, a native of Elloree, South Carolina, began a life of public service by enlisting as an infantryman in the South Carolina National Guard, in 1955, two years before he completed his high school education, has distinguished himself with thirty-nine years of exemplary service in law enforcement and an unparalled commitment to public safety, and is scheduled to retire from his position as Director of Public Safety for the City of Cayce, South Carolina, on March 31, 1998; and

Whereas, Mr. Dantzler began his career in law enforcement on December 28, 1959, with the City of Cayce Police Department as a patrolman, was successively promoted to positions of increasing responsibility in law enforcement, firefighting, and public safety until he was elevated to his present position of Director of Public Safety for the City of Cayce; and

Whereas, in addition to rising from a patrolman with the Cayce Police Department to become the Director of Public Safety, Mr. Dantzler's exemplary public service over the years has been repeatedly recognized with distinguished awards and service to numerous associations and fraternal orders devoted to the support of law enforcement in South Carolina, including holding many offices in these associations and fraternal organizations in which he still serves; and

Whereas, the record of public service and devotion to the welfare of his country, State, community, and his fellow man, as evidenced by the numerous promotions, honors, awards, and offices bestowed upon him by his peers throughout Mr. Dantzler's illustrious career, is virtually unparalled in the history of law enforcement, firefighting, and public safety in this State; and

Whereas, Mr. Dantzler and his lovely wife, Mrs. Barbara Owens Dantzler, are members of the First Baptist Church of Cayce, raised a family of three wonderful children while residing in or serving the City of Cayce and Lexington County for more than thirty-nine years. Mr. Dantzler is slated to retire on March 31, 1998. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and thank Mr. Arthur G. Dantzler for his many years of dedicated and excellent service to the City of Cayce, the County of Lexington, and the State of South Carolina in the fields of law enforcement, firefighting, and public safety, and wish him and his family many years of health and happiness following his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Dantzler.
