TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO THE LAURENS DISTRICT 55 HIGH SCHOOL "LADY RAIDERS" BASKETBALL TEAM, MANAGERS AND COACHES ON ACHIEVING AN UNDEFEATED SEASON, NATIONAL RANKING AND THE AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1997-98.
Whereas, the Laurens District 55 High School Girls Basketball Team captured the 1997-98 Class AAAA Girls State Basketball Championship by defeating Summerville High School 54-48 at the Carolina Coliseum; and
Whereas, the Lady Raiders finished with an unprecedented record of 29-0 and a national ranking of 25th; and
Whereas, the Lady Raiders were also crowned Laurens YMCA Christmas Tournament Champions and Bank of Iva Holiday Classic Champions; and
Whereas, Head Coach Travis Langford and Assistant Coaches Temple Elmoore and Angela Shaw exhibited tremendous leadership and dedication throughout the entire season and are richly deserving of recognition; and
Whereas, the Lady Raiders championship basketball team includes the following young ladies: Latoria Goggans; LaQuinta Neely; All-State, All-Region performer and 4-A Player of the Year Chrissy Floyd; Wendy Fugel; Niva Prince; Sharika Boyd; All-State, All-Region performer Yoneko Allen; Bridget Bagwell; Jessica Newell; Neicey Walk; Jenn Fugel; All-State, All-Region performer Christy Blackwell; Chicara Patterson and Jennifer Wix; and
Whereas, the Lady Raiders managers Casey Rice, Lucretia Byrd, Audrea Mosley and Eric Neely complete an outstanding and unparalleled team whose dedication, determination and hard work enabled them to achieve an undefeated, nationally ranked and championship season; and
Whereas, the Lady Raiders of Laurens District 55 High School have brought well-deserved recognition upon their school, county, state and nation which now proudly stands in the record books. Now therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, publicly extend congratulations to the Laurens District 55 High School girls basketball team, coaches and managers on achieving an undefeated season, national ranking and state championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Travis Langford.
