EXPRESSING PROFOUND SORROW AT THE DEATH OF MARTHA M. RICH, A LEADING CITIZEN OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY, AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
Whereas, Martha M. Rich of the Westside community of Edgefield County died Tuesday, February 4, 1997, at the age of seventy-three; and
Whereas, lovingly called "Miz Martha" by all who knew her, she was a popular public servant of Edgefield County; she had retired last summer after more than thirty years in county government; for the last fifteen years she had served as Edgefield County's Assistant Administrator and had served for five months as Acting Administrator in late 1995 and early 1996; and
Whereas, Miz Martha gave freely of her time, talents, and energy to countless civic and community causes and endeavors; she was a dedicated and efficient public servant and constantly sought to do the best for Edgefield County; she was also a devoted member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the church's W.M.U. and an assistant teacher in the Sunday School; and
Whereas, Miz Martha was a truly outstanding individual; she was respected, admired, and loved by all who knew her; and her presence will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express profound sorrow at the death of Martha M. Rich, a leading citizen of Edgefield County, and extend deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Rich's family.
