Whereas, Mr. Lane acquired a copy of the CBS film entitled "The Hunley" which utilized the Museum's model and is used by the Charleston Museum for public viewing and special showings; and
Whereas, Mr. Lane encouraged the Charleston Museum to establish a unique attachment and important relationship with the H.L. Hunley to promote public awareness and appreciation; and
Whereas, the active interest and selfless dedication which motivated Mr. Lane has been continued by his son, Mr. Hugh C. Lane, Jr.; and
Whereas, Mr. Hugh C. Lane, Jr., as President of the Charleston Museum's Board of Trustees, has been instrumental in advocating the sensitive preservation of the H.L. Hunley since the discovery of the vessel in 1995 and has personally contributed much of his own time and money; and
Whereas, Mr. Lane, Jr. has caused an exhibition prospectus to be developed, initiated plans for a new wing to the Charleston Museum to house the H.L. Hunley and obtained commitments for funding should the Hunley Commission choose to place it at the Museum. Now, therefore,
