TO COMMEND AND EXTEND THE BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO MR. JOHN C. SHIFLET, JR., UPON RETIREMENT FROM HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE JOHN DE LA HOWE SCHOOL IN MCCORMICK, SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, John C. Shiflet, Jr., a native of Georgia, dedicated his entire adult life to the education and guidance of children and is retiring after a distinguished career at the John de la Howe School in McCormick, South Carolina; and
Whereas, he attended Anderson College and in 1968, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Georgia, followed by a Master's degree in education from Clemson University; and
Whereas, after briefly teaching social studies and science at Ware Shoals High School, Mr. Shiflet devoted his entire teaching career to John de la Howe School; and
Whereas, Mr. Shiflet quickly moved up to Director of Cottage Life at John de la Howe and was promoted to Assistant Superintendent in 1977; and
Whereas, since 1979, John has served as Superintendent and Treasurer of the school where he has been an inspiring example of continued excellence, an outstanding mentor and role model, and a respected and admired colleague, supervisor, and friend; and
Whereas, in addition to his thirty years of exemplary service to John de la Howe, Mr. Shiflet has unselfishly given of his time and talents to many public and civic endeavors both in his community and the State; and
Whereas, he is the devoted husband of Deborah Gentry Shiflet and together they have one daughter, Kelly Greene, one son, John Mark, and three doted upon, precious, grandsons; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives deeply appreciate Mr. Shiflet's efforts and contributions rendered over these past thirty years to the students, faculty, and staff of John de la Howe School to the citizens of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend and extend best wishes to Mr. John C. Shiflet, Jr., upon retirement from his many years of dedicated service to the John de la Howe School in McCormick, South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Shiflet and to the John de la Howe School.
