SALUTING AND THANKING JOHN H. DOWDLE OF LAURENS COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE THORNWELL HOME FOR CHILDREN IN CLINTON, AND WISHING HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, on April 30, 2000, John H. Dowdle of Laurens County will be honored as he retires from full-time employment with the Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton; and
Whereas, on this occasion the Mayes-Dowdle Cottage at Thornwell will be rededicated, adding Mr. Dowdle's name to a Thornwell landmark once known as "The Baby Cottage"; and
Whereas, Mr. Dowdle has had an association of fifty-two years with Thornwell and has rendered forty-four years of service as a vital member of Thornwell's professional staff; and
Whereas, he has been very active in his church and community over the years; he is a long-time member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, has served on various denominational committees, was a delegate in 1981 to the church General Assembly, and is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the South Carolina Home in Montreat, North Carolina; in the community, he has served on the YMCA Board of Directors, as a member of the Lions Club, and for fifteen years as a member of the Laurens County Commission for Mental Retardation; he is currently serving his second term as a member of the Clinton City Council; and
Whereas, John H. Dowdle is a remarkable, generous, and caring individual, and we are indeed pleased to have the opportunity to recognize him in this special manner. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes and thanks John H. Dowdle of Laurens County for his many years of outstanding and dedicated service to the Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton and wishes him success and happiness following his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Dowdle.
