Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark, as follows:

Merciful God, help us to open the doors and clear the way that leads to You. Grant us the power to see the world and to see ourselves through the eyes of others so that we may see them through Your eyes and learn to see them with greater understanding and compassion. Thank You for helping us be the persons You intend us to be, and make Your presence known in all the doings of our lives. Thank You, Lord, for this privilege of prayer. Amen.

After corrections to the Journal of the proceedings of yesterday, the SPEAKER ordered it confirmed.

At 10:15 a.m. the House in accordance with the ruling of the SPEAKER adjourned to meet at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, January 18.
