The House assembled at 10:00 A.M.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark, as follows:
O God, our Father, to Your merciful care we commend this great State. Be with all who make the laws, all who execute the laws, and all who enforce the laws. Direct our steps, guard us from harm, and support us in wise decisions. Sustain our efforts this day that we may meet its demands with joy, its difficulties with gratitude, its doubts with a faith that no darkness can diminish. When we falter may we hear the words of the psalmist: "The Lord is my light and my salvation ...of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1) Amen.
After corrections to the Journal of the proceedings of yesterday, the SPEAKER ordered it confirmed.
