The Senate assembled at 11:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the ACTING PRESIDENT, Senator DRUMMOND. (This is a special Statewide Session day established under the provisions of Senate Rule 1B. Members not having scheduled committee or subcommittee meetings may be in their home district without effect on their session attendance record.)
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:
Beloved, St. James is often called an "apostle of good works." Hear his words in Chapter 2 (v. 18) (NIV):
"But some will say, 'You have faith; I have works (deeds).' Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do."
Let us pray.
Our Father, may our godly heritage and the faith of our fathers be a leaven in each of us, whether in the Chamber of the Senate or sequestered in committee meetings.
In each new age enable us to renew our loyalties, conserving the best of the past.
You know the condition of our hearts. May we greet each new day remembering the words "Out of the heart are the issues of life."
So, whether in committee rooms or in "The Chamber" we thank You for each new day as "a gift of God." May we use it to Your glory!
Amen.
