TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE BROOKLAND-CAYCE HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON AND THEIR EXCITING 2002 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN, AND TO WISH THEM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the Brookland-Cayce High School softball team came from behind to win the 2002 Class AAA Softball Championship on Friday, May 17, 2002, at Presbyterian College; and
Whereas, after losing the first game, the Lady Bearcats defeated Pickens High School in the second and third games of the series to gain the title; and
Whereas, in the final game, the Bearcats trailed one to nothing until the third inning during which the girls scored five runs. After a ten-minute rain delay, the game resumed with Brookland-Cayce on top with a final score of ten to five; and
Whereas, the members of the winning team are Amanda Taylor, Chambre Pugh, Chakeyta Lawson, Jennifer Gunter, Sarah Conwell, Candice Henderson, Angela Johnson, Sha'ron Riley, Shanequa Pringle, Jennifer Owens, Christina (C.J.) Johnson, Jennifer James, McKenna Hughes, Latoya Brown, Bethany Smith, Amber Brown, and Natasha McRae; and
Whereas, the team was led to victory by head coach Richard Lundy, who has been named Region Coach of the Year every year since 1997, and assistant coaches Steve Collins, Mike Hughes, and Pamela Collins; and
Whereas, the Bearcats finished the 2002 season with thirty-one wins and only seven losses, and over the last six years, the girls have won one hundred eighty games with just thirty-four losses; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate are proud to recognize the Brookland-Cayce High School Softball Team for its wonderful season and outstanding championship win. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the players, coaches, and staff of the Brookland-Cayce High School Varsity Softball Team for their outstanding season and their exciting 2002 Class AAA State Championship win and wish them much athletic and academic success in their future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Brookland-Cayce High School Lady Bearcats Softball Team.
