TO CONGRATULATE VAN BREWER OF MANNING ON THE OCCASION OF HIS BEING NAMED THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2000 CLARENDON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Whereas, the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce has established and maintains the prestigious Clarendon County Business Person of the Year Award that is presented annually to the outstanding business person in Clarendon County; and

Whereas, at the award dinner, in front of a crowd of one hundred, Van Brewer received a plaque and a check for his favorite charity and was honored by "The Freemanettes," the nickname for a group of women who have worked for Mr. Brewer for quite some time; and

Whereas, Van Brewer is the president of Freeman Millworks, a position he has held for the past twenty-four years. Over the course of his forty-nine years of devoted employment at Freemen Millworks, he has developed a philosophy a co-worker described as "we don't want to sell things unless we make money, and we can't be all things to all people"; and

Whereas, Mr. Brewer has been described as someone who is "down to earth," who "listens to what people are saying," and is held in high esteem by many; and

Whereas, Van Brewer, a member of Manning United Methodist Church, is married to Mrs. Barbara Brewer and has a daughter, Lynn. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Van Brewer of Manning on the occasion of his being named the recipient of the 2000 Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Brewer.
