TO CONGRATULATE THE GREENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE CLASS AAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON DECEMBER 1, 2000.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives applaud the Greenwood High School football team on winning the Class AAAA, Division II State Championship at Williams - Brice Stadium in Columbia on Friday, December 1, 2000; and
Whereas, the Greenwood Eagles High School football team lives by the motto, "To be a champion, it takes a little more". The team had a regular season record of thirteen and one, outscoring their opponents five hundred four to one hundred fifty-seven; and
Whereas, in the championship game, Greenwood was beating Aiken twenty-one to zero until late in the third quarter when Aiken scored two touchdowns narrowing the margin to twenty-one to twenty. Aiken scored again in the fourth quarter, but missed the extra point crowning the Greenwood Eagles the AAAA, Division II State Champions with a final score of twenty-one to twenty; and
Whereas, the Greenwood Eagles had many outstanding players, and among other honors eight members of the team were honored by being chosen to the Index Journal/Greenwood Touchdown Club All-Lakelands team; and
Whereas, under the leadership of Coach Shell Dula, Greenwood has continued its tradition of football excellence as evidenced by its second straight championship; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate the members of the Greenwood High School football team, coaches, and staff upon the conclusion of a truly fantastic season. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, hereby congratulate the Greenwood High School football team for winning their second consecutive Class AAAA Division II State Championship on December 1, 2000.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Greenwood High School football team.
