TO AMEND SECTION 9-1-10, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO DEFINITIONS FOR PURPOSES OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA RETIREMENT SYSTEM, SO AS TO INCLUDE EMPLOYMENT BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA REINSURANCE FACILITY WITHIN THE DEFINITION OF "PUBLIC SERVICE" FOR PURPOSES OF ESTABLISHING SERVICE CREDIT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 9-1-10(23) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 387 of 2000, is further amended to read:
"(23) 'Public Service' means service as an employee of the government of the United States, a state or political subdivision of the United States, or an agency or instrumentality of any of these. It also includes service as an employee of the South Carolina Reinsurance Facility. 'Public service' does not include 'educational service' or 'military service' as defined in this section."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
