TO COMMEND AND HONOR THE McABEE FAMILY, BOB, SHARLENE, JACLYN, AND BRET, FOR THEIR TIRELESS EFFORTS AND COUNTLESS HOURS VOLUNTEERING AT THE SPARTANBURG CHILDREN SHELTER AND TO RECOGNIZE THEM ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2001 SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR'S VOLUNTEER FAMILY.
Whereas, the McAbee family is extremely committed and supportive of the Spartanburg Children Shelter by sharing their unconditional love and kindness with each child brought into the shelter; and
Whereas, the Spartanburg Children Shelter is a home for abused, neglected, and abandoned children in Spartanburg. The police or the Spartanburg County Department of Social Services bring children into the shelter, from an abusive situation, with only the clothes on their backs. The shelter has clothes closets with clothing donations from the community that are supplied to the children while at the shelter; and
Whereas, the McAbee family helps distribute, organize, and sort these materials in order to help the children along in a very unsettling situation. Bob, Sharlene, Jaclyn, and Bret have been a tremendous help due to the small staff and the amount of work that needs to be accomplished at the shelter; and
Whereas, all the children and staff at the Spartanburg Children Shelter benefited from the McAbee family's assistance during the Christmas season of 2000. They spent innumerable long hours filling Santa boxes for one hundred fifteen children housed at the shelter. Bob, Sharlene, Jaclyn, and Brett spent Christmas Eve at the shelter to ensure each child received the gifts that were on their lists and that each child's Christmas was as special as they were; and
Whereas, Bob, Sharlene, Jaclyn, and Bret have provided an exceptional service to the Spartanburg Children Shelter for programs and projects which minister to the needs of the children; and
Whereas, the McAbee Family, Bob, Sharlene, Jaclyn, and Bret, live in Campobello, South Carolina, and attend Dependent Baptist Church in Inman. Sharlene works with children at the church by directing the small children's choir, teaching Sunday School, and is in charge of the King's Kids program offered on Wednesday nights. Bob assists with each of these projects; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina to rise today in tribute to the McAbee family, who will forever hold a special place in our hearts, for making a difference in the lives of children and their fellow man. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and honor the McAbee family, Bob, Sharlene, Jaclyn, and Bret, for their tireless efforts and countless hours volunteering at the Spartanburg Children Shelter and recognize them on being selected as the 2001 South Carolina Governor's Volunteer Family.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the McAbee family.
