TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE SUMMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRACK TEAM FOR WINNING THE AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2001, AND WISH THE TEAM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly applaud the Summerville High School Boys Track Team for winning the AAAA State Championship Meet Saturday, May 12, 2001; and
Whereas, going into the championship Summerville knew they would fare well, but exceeded their expectations when the team tied Richland Northeast High School of Columbia for the AAAA State Boys Track Championship, Summerville's first state championship title since 1994; and
Whereas, the teams endured an inclement day with an hour and ten minute delay due to severe weather including rain, thunder, and lightning, but the Summerville Waves kept their spirits soaring and their adrenaline pumping; and
Whereas, the championship meet was an exciting match of skills between Summerville and Richland Northeast, both with seventy-four points and just two events left for them: the sixteen hundred meter relay and the pole vault. Summerville was not entered in the relay, and Richland Northeast finished third but was disqualified for a lane violation. Summerville was unable to clear the opening height for the pole vault and scored no points for that event, ending the meet with a tie for the state championship title; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly congratulate the members of the Summerville High School AAAA State Championship Boys Track Team on their first state title since 1994 and a fantastic season. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Summerville High School Boys track team for winning the AAAA State Championship Saturday, May 12, 2001, and wish them much athletic and academic success in the future.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Summerville High School.
