CONGRATULATING THE CHRIST CHURCH EPISCOPAL SCHOOL CAVALIERS OF GREENVILLE ON THEIR FIRST-EVER GIRLS' SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP FOR REGION II, EARNED IN A HARD-FOUGHT 2-1 VICTORY OVER HANAHAN.
Whereas, Christ Church Episcopal School fielded an outstanding girls' soccer team in defeating Chapin to win the Girls' Soccer Team Region II A-AA Championship; and
Whereas, this championship season ended with an overall record of 14 wins and 5 losses; and
Whereas, a majority of the games these girls played were against AAA and AAAA schools; and
Whereas, on May 9, 2001, this feisty girls' team took on Chapin, a perennial powerhouse, and defeated them in overtime; and
Whereas, the leadership provided by the team's co-captains, Britten Meyer, Harriet Gallivan, and Katie Evans proceeded to be a force that galvanized the entire team into an efficient and well-oiled piece of soccer machinery; and
Whereas, on May 11, 2001, the state championship for Region II A-AA was played in Columbia; and
Whereas, there was enormous support from dedicated and local families from Christ Church who made the trip to Columbia to cheer their Cavaliers; and
Whereas, with this kind of backing from their school, the girls' soccer team was victorious over a tough Hanahan team by a score of 2-1; and
Whereas, the following players were recognized for their exceptional playing skills: Britten Meyer and Amy Shuler were named to the All State Team; Best Offensive Player was Katie Evans; Best Defensive Player was Erin Shalleross; Most Valuable Player was Britten Meyer; and the best defensive team was led by Harriet Gallivan; and
Whereas, the long practices and trips, in addition to the sacrifices made for the sake of the team, have paid off by achieving to what every team aspires, being the best at what you do which will prove to be an invaluable lesson that will be carried by the girls for the rest of their lives; and
Whereas, Coach Frank Kucinic should be commended for his guidance and perseverance in being the catalyst that helped the members of this team achieve their full potential. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
