Whereas, Bobby Robinson will end his highly successful tenure as Athletic Director for Clemson University on June 30, 2002, after more than thirty years of involvement with Tiger athletics; and
Whereas, Bobby Robinson leaves the Clemson Athletic Office, having built one of the finest all-around athletic programs in the country and having enhanced Clemson University's tradition of producing well-rounded student athletes, who compete well in sports and in life; and
Whereas, always placing the needs of Clemson University first, Bobby Robinson finalized his decision to retire in January of 2002 in order to give the University adequate time to conduct a national search for his successor; and
Whereas, Mr. Robinson's replacement will step into an excellent position and find that the Clemson Athletic Department is in sound financial shape, the Clemson IPTAY Alumni Association has record levels of participation, the Tiger Pride program is highly successful, Clemson athletes are doing well academically, the program is facing no NCAA compliance issues, and the department's projects are all on schedule; and
Whereas, as Clemson's Golf Coach between 1974 and 1983, Bobby Robinson established the foundation for a men's golf program that is now ranked among the top five in the nation on a consistent basis, having won its first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship in 1982 and its first top five NCAA Tournament finish in 1983; and
Whereas, during Bobby Robinson's years as Clemson Athletic Director, Tiger teams have won an astounding fifty-six Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships; nine times in his sixteen seasons Clemson's all-around sports program has ranked in the Top 25 nationally, including three top ten finishes; and Clemson has had three hundred eighty-two All-Americans during Robinson's tenure and twenty-three individual National Championship performances; and
Whereas, the Clemson athletic program, under Bobby Robinson's direction, has become even more focused on the academic success of its athletes, with sixty percent of them being on the academic honor roll, and Clemson is the only program in the country to have two first-team Academic All-American football players each of the last two years; and
Whereas, Bobby Robinson now ends his work as Clemson University Athletic Director after sixteen wonderful seasons, during which time he has helped build an athletic program that rivals that of any major university in the United States and one that the students, faculty, alumni, and supporters of Clemson can truly be proud. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
