TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND OTTO MORRELL OF BAMBERG FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS AND VOLUNTEER EFFORTS THROUGHOUT BAMBERG COUNTY AND CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS NOMINATION FOR THE BAMBERG COUNTY OFFICE ON AGING VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD.
Whereas, Otto Morrell is a generous, willing, and dedicated volunteer of his time, talents, and money for many community service activities in Bamberg County; and
Whereas, Mr. Morrell has become known as the "barbecue chicken king" because he is always willing to cook delicious chickens for a good cause at a fundraiser; and
Whereas, his barbecue chicken fundraisers began with a fundraiser for his daughter's high school band and have become a thirty-five-year tradition; and
Whereas, he participates in fundraisers for the high school band, Old Friends Golf Classic which provides a college scholarship to a needy and deserving high school senior, the American Cancer Society, and churches; and
Whereas, Otto Morrell has been active in the Bamberg County Office on Aging helping with fundraisers for the home-delivered meals program; and
Whereas, he has a collection of antique cars that he is always willing to drive in parades in Bamberg County and surrounding areas, chauffeuring politicians and beauty queens among others; and
Whereas, in addition to fundraising, Mr. Morrell worked at Savannah River Site for more than thirty-seven years. He also served in the South Carolina National Guard for thirty-one years and formed the first fire rescue squad in Bamberg County; and
Whereas, this amazing man is also very proud of his three successful children and six grandchildren; and
Whereas, for his generosity and support for the community service activities of Bamberg County, the General Assembly is proud to congratulate him on his nomination for the Bamberg County Office on Aging Volunteer of the Year Award. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Otto Morrell of Bamberg for his contributions and volunteer efforts throughout Bamberg County and congratulate him on his nomination for the Bamberg County Office on Aging Volunteer of the Year Award.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Morrell.
