TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF DOCTOR THOMAS MARION DAVIS OF MANNING ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2001, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina were deeply saddened by the death of cherished friend, respected doctor, and devoted family man, Thomas Marion Davis of Manning on Monday, December 10, 2001, at the age of eighty-two; and
Whereas, Thomas Marion Davis was born July 6, 1919, in Branchville to George Bellinger Davis, Sr., and Louise McAlhany Davis. Dr. Davis later moved to Manning in 1950 to practice surgery at Clarendon Memorial Hospital as Chief of Surgery for forty years. Dr. Davis was also Chief of Staff and a member of the hospital's Board of Trustees for thirty years; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis was not only an excellent doctor, he was a well-respected community leader, was involved in his church, and loved hunting and fishing. Friends said that he was loyal to his beliefs and generous with his services; and
Whereas, he will be remembered as a wise, dear friend, captivating storyteller, wonderful boss, and loving father and husband; and
Whereas, the General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. Thomas Marion Davis. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Adele Davis; three daughters, Marie Davis Buyck of St. Matthews and Harriet Davis Rawlinson and Caroline Davis Herring of Manning; a son, Thomas Marion "Bubba" Davis, Jr., of Manning; two brothers, George Bellinger Davis, Jr., of Lexington and Dr. William McAlhany Davis of Spartanburg; a sister, Margaret Davis Rogers of Columbia; and seven grandchildren. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Doctor Thomas Marion Davis of Manning on Monday, December 10, 2001, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Pauline Adele Davis of Manning.
