The Senate assembled at 11:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT Pro Tempore.

A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

Beloved, St. Matthew gives us a parable of the wise and the foolish virgins. Chapter 26:1:

"Now they that were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,

But the WISE took flasks of oil with their lamps."
Let us pray.

Father, St. Matthew makes it so plain. We see that the difference between the wise and the foolish virgins was the difference in being prepared for the short term and intermediate needs, but they had not done their "homework," and were not prepared for the long term and unforeseen emergencies.

Grant to us, O Lord, every day, such wisdom that we may be able to meet our challenges, not only with adequate economic resources but with such resourcefulness of character that will enable us to meet sudden good fortune as well as long-term responsibility.
In the Good Lord's Name!
Amen.

The PRESIDENT Pro Tempore called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
