The Senate assembled at 12:00 Noon, the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:
Beloved, we read "The Living Bible," Psalm 27: 8,11:
"Lord! My heart has heard You say, 'Come and talk with Me, O my people.' And my heart responds, 'Lord, I am coming.' ... 'Tell me what to do, O Lord, and make it plain'..."
Let us pray.
Father, we know the feelings of the Psalmist. Things haven't changed much through the years. The issues of our common life at home and across the world seem to get more and more complicated. Our people are looking to us as their elected leaders! The people of China are looking to their leaders - the same in Iran, Iraq, Russia and many "hot spots" throughout many lands.
Help us to find a spiritual catalyst that will turn suspicion into trust and conflict into cooperation. We desperately need each other.
Save us and our fellow-mortals from self-destruction.
Make it simple... and plain, Lord!
Amen.
The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
The following appointment was transmitted by the Honorable James H. Hodges:
