TO CONGRATULATE J. C. McCONNELL OF ANDERSON COUNTY ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OF TIRELESS SERVICE AS A PROFESSOR AT CLEMSON UNIVERSITY, COMMEND HIM FOR HIS LIFELONG DEDICATION TO THE ANIMAL AND VETERINARY SCIENCES PROGRAM, AND WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Mr. J. C. McConnell of Anderson County began his career in education thirty-four years ago as an assistant professor at Clemson University; and
Whereas, Professor McConnell earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tennessee; and
Whereas, he has touched the lives of thousands of students over the years and provided the necessary foundation for his students to progress academically; and
Whereas, he has been an inspiration to the many students and professors at Clemson University and will be sorely missed for his leadership and guidance; and
Whereas, Professor McConnell has published more than one hundred scholarly works: thirty-seven bulletins or refereed abstracts/Journal articles, sixty-nine station field day reports, and one extension bulletin; designed a "low energy" pig nursery and two prototype "low energy" farrowing houses; managed the Swine Unit at Clemson University in 1985; was a member of the Reading Committee for Experiment Station manuscripts; was editor of the Animal Science Field Day publications; was a building committeeman for the Swine and Sheep Research Units' expansion and relocation; chaired the Monogastric Section of the Southern Section, American Society of Animal Science; was a committee member for forty graduate students; conceived and implemented a management plan to provide long-time economic stability and financial gain sufficient to fund future research unit expansion at Starkey Swine Center, an Experiment Station model for improving efficiency on farms; conceived and implemented a plan to change and monitor productivity of livestock at Starkey Swine Center; updated and renovated buildings; and presented numerous talks to producer conferences, the Georgia Nutrition Conference, College Livestock Feed Board meeting, and Southern and National Animal Sciences meetings; and
Whereas, he is a member of Alpha Zeta; Gamma Sigma Delta, where he had served as President, Vice-President, and Secretary of the local chapter; Phi Kappa Phi; Sigma XI; Tri-County Pork Producers Association; and the South Carolina Sheep Producers Association; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate are proud to honor Professor J. C. McConnell for his many years of service to Clemson University and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate congratulate Mr. J. C. McConnell of Anderson County on his retirement after thirty-four years of tireless service as a professor at Clemson University, commend him on his lifelong dedication to the Animal and Veterinary Sciences Program, and wish him must success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Professor McConnell.
