A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MRS. FALEESE DAVIS OF COLUMBIA ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY ON JUNE 2, 2004, AND TO WISH HER MANY MORE YEARS OF HAPPINESS.

Whereas, Mrs. Faleese Davis of Columbia was born on June 2, 1904, in New Brookland, South Carolina, which is now West Columbia; and

Whereas, she attended Saint Anna Episcopal School and graduated from Benedict Institute, now Benedict College, in 1925; and

Whereas, known for her dedication to both civic causes and her God, in 1935 she became an active member of Zion Baptist Church in Columbia, and she has worked tirelessly with several organizations of the church ever since; and

Whereas, Mrs. Davis served as secretary of the Senior Missionary Society and was the first female trustee of the church, a position that she held for more than thirty years; and

Whereas, a participant in the Senior Citizens Day Camp, she is also a charter member of the Arsenal Hill Club/Circle, an active member of the United Christian Women's Auxiliary, and was honored as the 2001 Woman of the Year of Zion Baptist Church; and

Whereas, at a young age, Mrs. Davis recognized the importance of education and her dedication and commitment to education earned her the honorary position of chairperson of the Benedict and Morris College Teas for many years; and

Whereas, her community involvement included working with the Arsenal Hill Neighborhood Association and she was also an Eastern Star member; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to pause to recognize Mrs. Davis on her one hundredth birthday who, with her charisma of youth and inner strength, is truly an outstanding South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their congratulations to Mrs. Faleese Davis on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday on June 2, 2004, and wish her many more years of happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Faleeze Davis.
