A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-101-430 SO AS TO ALLOW A MINIMUM OF TEN PERCENT OR TWO PLAYERS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER, TO BE "WALK-ON" PLAYERS ON A NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION OR NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS TEAM, AND TO DEFINE "WALK-ON" FOR THIS PURPOSE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 101, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-101-430.    A public institution of higher learning, as defined in Section 59-103-5, shall allow a minimum of ten percent or two players, whichever is greater, to be 'walk-on' players on a National Collegiate Athletic Association or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics team.

For purposes of this section, 'walk-on' means a player who does not receive some form of athletic scholarship or other athletic assistance."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
