A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-5-815 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO REIMBURSE CERTAIN ENTITIES WHICH OWN AND OPERATE WATER OR SEWER LINES, OR BOTH, WHEN THESE LINES ARE RELOCATED BECAUSE OF CONSTRUCTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 5, Chapter 5, Title 57 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 57-5-815.    The department shall reimburse business organizations chartered as not for profit and municipalities which have a customer base of five hundred or less when the water or sewer lines, or both, of a not-for-profit organization or municipality are relocated necessitated by construction on state highways. The not-for-profit organization or municipality shall certify to the department the number of customers it serves."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
