A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE LEXINGTON COUNTY NATIVE DEMETRIS SUMMERS OF LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL WILDCATS FOOTBALL TEAM ON HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS RUNNING BACK AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN HIS FUTURE FOOTBALL CAREER AND OTHER ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina are pleased to honor Lexington County native Demetris Summers for his record-breaking accomplishments at Lexington High School as a running back on the varsity football team; and

Whereas, Demetris Summers stands six feet, one inch tall, weighs 200 pounds, and can run the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds; and

Whereas, Demetris Summers is one of the top running back prospects in the nation; and

Whereas, Demetris Summers, also known as "Meat" to most of his friends and fans, is one of the most phenomenal football players to ever play on the Lexington High School Wildcats football team; and

Whereas, Demetris Summers holds South Carolina records for the most yards (9,076) rushing in a career and the most touchdowns (127); and

Whereas, his national records includes ranking No. 1 in 100-yard games (46); ranking No. 4 in rushing yards (9,076); ranking No. 4 in rushing touchdowns (120); and ranking No. 4 in scoring points (762); and

Whereas, in 2002 he has been named in Parade, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, US Army, Riddell, Street and Smith, and PowerAde; and

Whereas, other accomplishments include four years All Region, four years All Area, four years All State, 2002 Region MVP, 2002 Athlete of the Year, 2001 Gatorade Player of the Year, 2002 AAAA State Player of the Year, and Decade Player of the State; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate applaud Demetris Summers for his spectacular football career for the Lexington High School Wildcats and look forward to hearing of his future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Lexington County native Demetris Summers of the Lexington High School Wildcats football team on his outstanding accomplishments as running back and to wish him much success in his future football career and other endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Demetris Summers.
