VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
CONGRATULATING MISS SHELLEY WHITE OF MULLINS ON BEING NAMED THE NATIONAL RURAL EDUCATION TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND WISHING HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND SATISFACTION IN HER TEACHING CAREER.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were pleased to learn that Miss Shelley White of Mullins was named the National Rural Education Teacher of the Year at the annual meeting of the National Rural Education Association in Portland, Oregon, representing rural teachers across the United States; and
Whereas, with fifty-six of the state's school districts classified as rural, Miss White earned this recognition against strong competition in this State and from across the United States; and
Whereas, Shelley White is not only the first South Carolina teacher to be so honored, she is also the youngest teacher ever to win the honor; and
Whereas, Miss White grew up in Mullins and currently teaches second grade at Easterling Primary School in Marion, where she has taught for four years. Her extraordinary gift for the teaching profession is a reflection of an ingrained family tradition as her mother teaches science at a primary school in Mullins, her father serves as finance director for Florence District One, and her grandmother and two great aunts were teachers; and
Whereas, parents clamor to enroll their children in her class and her lesson plans are used as models at her alma mater, Francis Marion University; and
Whereas, in honor of this extraordinary honor, the South Carolina Association for Rural Education, Lightspan, and the Marion County School District Number One hosted a reception in her honor on October 28, 2002, at the Easterling Primary School; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to add their voices to the chorus of recognition for this truly gifted teacher for her accomplishments and congratulate her for this well-deserved honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Miss Shelley White of Mullins on being named the National Rural Education Teacher of the Year, express their appreciation to her for her accomplishments as an educator, and wish her continuing success and satisfaction in her teaching career.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Shelley White of Mullins.
