A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL SILVER FOXES FOOTBALL TEAM ON WINNING ITS FIRST CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2002, COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION, AND WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Silver Foxes had an outstanding season with only one loss to Class AA Cheraw. Lamar is known for its tremendous defensive pressure that shut out its first four opponents and allowed only one team to score more than thirteen points all season; and

Whereas, in the championship game Lamar was beating Lake View eleven to six midway through the third quarter when Michael Hamlin intercepted his second pass of the day and returned it forty yards for a touchdown to secure a victory for the Silver Foxes with a final score of twenty-one to twelve. Punter Chris Windham had a remarkable game with a forty-nine yard average on seven punts and a forty-one yard field goal in the championship game; and

Whereas, the Lamar Silver Foxes had many outstanding players this season that relied on the experience of seniors including Jamie Mack, Ric and Anthony McFadden, Keithan Sinkler, Cleshon Bess, Matthew Norris, Jeff Jeffords, Christian Hudson, Jamel and Jermaine Flemming, and Chris Windham; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Coach J.R. Boyd, Lamar won its first State Title. Coach Boyd has been quite successful in the past ten years with four Lower State Titles and an appearance at the 2000 Class A State Championship. He attributes the success of the team to his players and the tremendous effort they exhibited this season; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to congratulate the Lamar High School Football Team on an outstanding season and for winning the Class A State Championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Lamar High School Silver Foxes football team on winning its first Class A State Championship on Saturday, December 7, 2002, commend the players, coaches, and staff for their hard work and dedication, and wish them every success in their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Lamar High School Silver Foxes football team.
