A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE ROBERT CURRY OF CLEARWATER FOR HIS OUTSTANDING BUSINESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to recognize astute businessman Robert Curry for his dedication to his community and many civic activities; and

Whereas, Mr. Robert Curry was employed at Bath Mill when he began his sanitation business thirty-two years ago with one pick-up truck going door-to-door in the unincorporated areas; and

Whereas, by 1972, Mr. Curry was able to leave the mill and focus on Curry Sanitation Service full time. The first major contract that he obtained was with the Clearwater Special Purpose District; and by providing excellent service to Clearwater, Langley Special Purpose District began to contract with Curry Sanitation Service and has done so for more than thirteen years; and

Whereas, there are five Curry Sanitation Service trucks that run residential routes, three trucks that run commercial routes, and three trucks that service construction sites. Mr. Curry now employs about twenty people including his wife, Veronica, who handles bookkeeping and payroll, and his daughter, Vernice, who manages the office and handles the phone calls; and

Whereas, while stimulating his business Mr. Curry still managed to stay involved in many community activities as a member of the Shrine Temple at Aiken and by providing complimentary clean-up service for many area church and civic events. The Midland Valley Chamber of Commerce named Curry Sanitation Service a caring business for its civic efforts, and Mr. Curry was named Citizen of the Year in 1997; and

Whereas, involvement with young people is one of Mr. Curry's main projects. He supports the Coalition to Assist Abused Persons, and he has sponsored fundraisers for student activities at local high schools as well as supported local Little League teams; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to honor Robert Curry for his hard work and many business accomplishments and for sharing the fruits of his labor with his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize Robert Curry of Clearwater for his outstanding business accomplishments and for his many contributions to the community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Robert Curry of Clearwater.
