A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE DARIUS JENKINS OF SUMTER ON RECEIVING A YOUTH SERVICE AWARD AT THE SUMTER BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE FREEDOM FUND AWARDS BANQUET ON NOVEMBER 8, 2002, COMMEND HIM ON HIS HEROIC ACTIONS IN SAVING "BABY GRACE", AND WISH HIM EVERY SUCCESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Darius Jenkins is twelve years old and attends Lemira Elementary School. He is currently in the fifth grade, and enjoys playing football and practicing his mechanical skills. Young Master Jenkins hopes to one day become either a police officer or a football player; and

Whereas, young Master Jenkins and his lifelong friend, Marion Ricks, discovered a newborn baby girl who had been abandoned in a field during their daily bike ride in July 2002. They notified a neighbor about their discovery and the police responded to the scene; and

Whereas, after the officers arrived, young Master Jenkins went home to inform his parents, Barbara Al-Azim and Howard Murray, about their discovery. His parents accompanied him to the field where the officers commended the young men for their heroic actions; and

Whereas, Darius Jenkins is pleased that he had the opportunity to help "Baby Grace". He hopes that she is doing well and enjoys her new home; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to honor the heroic actions of Darius Jenkins in taking part to save the life of "Baby Grace". Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Darius Jenkins of Sumter on receiving a youth service award at the Sumter Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Freedom Fund Awards banquet on November 8, 2002, commend him on his heroic actions in saving "Baby Grace", and wish him every success in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Darius Jenkins of Sumter.
