A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING SERGEANT JESSE LANTER OF FORT MILL FOR HIS ACTS OF SACRIFICE AND BRAVERY WHILE SERVING IN IRAQ WITH THE UNITED STATES MARINES AND WISHING HIM A SAFE RETURN TO HIS HOME STATE.

Whereas, Marine Sergeant Jesse Lanter of Fort Mill is serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 7th Marines, 1st Division, 3rd Battalion, India Company; and

Whereas his stepmother and father Alyson and David Lanter, suffered several months of anxiety since they last heard from their twenty-two-year-old in January; and

Whereas, their fear turned to joy and pride when they viewed an Associated Press photograph of their son carrying a wounded comrade off the battlefield near Az Bayer, Iraq; and

Whereas, the former Fort Mill High School football player and weightlifter and the only honor graduate of his May, 2000, boot camp class at Parris Island, is accustomed to teamwork; and

Whereas, his coaches, teammates, and instructors all recall his "grit, gumption, and guts"; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina is proud to have the world recognize the honor and courage of its citizens. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize Sergeant Jesse Lanter of Fort Mill, for his acts of sacrifice and bravery while serving in Iraq with the United States Marines and wish him a safe return to his home state.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. and Mrs. David Lanter.
