A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO CARLOS AND JEAN GIBBONS OF CLARENDON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON AUGUST 18, 2003, AND TO WISH THEM MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the marriage of two people is special in the lives of the individuals and in the lives of their family and friends; and

Whereas, couples that remain committed to each other and to the vows that they make are pleasant reminders of the importance of love and family in today's society and are inspirations to those who surround them; and

Whereas, Carlos Gibbons and Jean Dyson Gibbons, both originally from Clarendon County, were united in marriage on August 18, 1953, and remained in Clarendon County to begin their lives together; and

Whereas, both Carlos and Jean are long-time advocates for a better South Carolina and a greater United States; and

Whereas, while the Gibbons worked diligently to support their family, the couple raised three successful and loving children, Carlos, Jr., Leeza, and Cammy and are the proud grandparents of six; and

Whereas, sadly, although Jean Gibbons is plagued by Alzheimer's Disease, the family has not lost its spirit. Both her loving husband, Carlos, and their daughter, Cammy, take care of her daily needs with patience and understanding, and their son, Carlos, Jr., visits on a regular basis to show his appreciation and love. Also, the couple's daughter, Leeza, inspired by her mother, is an activist for a cure for Alzheimer's Disease and began the Leeza Gibbons Memory Centers and Family Workshops to educate and transform the Alzheimer's community; and

Whereas, this couple still loves and enjoys the company of each other, of their family, and of their friends. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to Carlos and Jean Gibbons of Clarendon County on the occasion of their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary on August 18, 2003, and wish them many years of continued happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Carlos and Jean Gibbons of Clarendon County.
