A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. JIM GASQUE OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN TEACHING DURING HIS CAREER AND ON RECEIVING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION'S 2003 UPPER SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Whereas, the education of South Carolina's young people is of utmost importance to this General Assembly and to the citizens of this State; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those incredible individuals who have dedicated their lives to improving South Carolina's schools and promoting the necessity of high quality education in today's society; and

Whereas, Mr. Jim Gasque of Columbia has been a teacher and mentor at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School for many years and has devoted his professional career to enhancing education and influencing the youth of South Carolina; and

Whereas, for more than forty years, he has tirelessly given his time and energy to provide students with the necessary training and skills to be successful professionals in this State; and

Whereas, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School has educated numerous young people whose lives have been enriched and enlightened by Mr. Jim Gasque's English lessons; and

Whereas, Mr. Gasque's colleagues and peers describe him as a "masterful teacher" and as a "living legend," who continues to have an impact on his students even after they have left his classroom; and

Whereas, his love for educating is apparent in his style and commitment to meeting the needs of his pupils, and his work is appreciated by students, teachers, and administrators; and

Whereas, recently, Mr. Gasque was recognized for his amazing teaching ability and was named the South Carolina Independent Schools Association's 2003 Upper School Teacher of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly extend their congratulations to Mr. Jim Gasque of Columbia for his many accomplishments in teaching during his career and on receiving the South Carolina Independent Schools Association's 2003 Upper School Teacher of the Year Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jim Gasque of Columbia.
