A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE COLLETON PREPARATORY ACADEMY "WAR HAWKS" FOOTBALL TEAM OF COLLETON COUNTY ON ITS VICTORY IN THE 2003 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives applaud the Colleton Preparatory Academy "War Hawks" Football Team of Colleton County on winning the state championship in an exciting win over the Robert E. Lee Academy Football Team on November 21, 2003, at Johnson-Hagood Stadium in Charleston; and

Whereas, this historic win came after the Colleton Prep Football Team completed the only undefeated season in its thirty-one year football history; and

Whereas, during the 2003 season, generally outscoring their opponents by more than thirty points, the War Hawks limited their opponents to eight points per game, allowed more than a single touchdown on just four occasions, and held their opponents scoreless in five games; and

Whereas, standouts like senior tailback Patrick Hamilton, linebacker Justin Pinckney, and defensive end Jason Eppinette served as team captains and led their team to 40 touchdowns; and

Whereas, the War Hawks have enjoyed an impressive three-year winning streak, the most successful stretch in the program's history, with a record of 36-4, three state championship appearances, and a championship win in 2002; and

Whereas, the 2003 Football Team achieved the ultimate victory even after losing seventeen seniors from the 2002 winning team, including its All-State quarterback and six North-South All-Stars; and

Whereas, on their remarkable run towards achieving their second consecutive state championship win, the War Hawks rushed for over 4,000 yards exemplifying the term "smash-mouth" football; and

Whereas, the game of football affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing unique physical and mental talents; and

Whereas, a football championship requires every member of the team and coaching staff to possess special leadership skills and athletic abilities; and

Whereas, using those talents, Head Coach Brock Miller; Assistant Coaches Tracey Burttram, Scott Babb, Chris Wells, J.J. Evans, Neil Minton, Payton Crosby, Larry McDonald, and Jeremy Langdale; Trainers Mallory Hogan, Amanda Morgan, Lindsey Benton, and Catherine Harvey; Statistician Bubba Trippe; and the members of the team performed throughout their season with determination and precision to earn the title of the best football team in their division; and

Whereas, with the enthusiasm and hard work of every team member, the Colleton Preparatory Academy "War Hawks" Football Team outscored the Robert E. Lee Academy Football Team in a thirty-three to fourteen victory to earn the 2003 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AA Championship crown; and

Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Marshall Tillotson, Perry Buckner, Trey Hall, Patrick Hamilton, Richard Steedley, Trey Robertson, John Gibbs, Jerel Hawkins, Hunter Hall, Joseph Williams, Preston Hogan, Clay Smoak, Kendall Hill, Gus White, Justin Pinckney, Brandon Purvis, Lathon Tripp, Gator Lemacks, Sean Smoak, Shane Zeigler, Robert Chasteen, Travis Watkins, Nick Fargnoli, Josh Boyd, K.C. Campbell, Jason Eppinette, Clint Benton, Drew Tripp, Dillon Poe, Seath Robertson, Thomas Howard, Ryan Bishop, Jeremy Babb, Nick Harriott, Nick Smoak, Westly Taylor, Mike Hickman, and Cory Crosby; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and encourage them to continue to use those skills in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Colleton Preparatory Academy "War Hawks" Football Team of Colleton County on its victory in the 2003 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AA State Championship Game.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Colleton Preparatory Academy "War Hawks" Football Team and Head Coach Brock Miller.
