A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE MEMBERS OF THE 2003 SUMMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "GREEN WAVE" WRESTLING TEAM AND HEAD COACH KENNY WALKER AND HIS STAFF FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN IN THE CLASS AAAA STATE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, to become a champion in wrestling, all members of the team and the coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, the Summerville High School "Green Wave" of Dorchester County capped their thrilling 2003 wrestling season by taking the Class AAAA State title in a 41-21 victory over Rock Hill High School to capture their third state title in the last four years; and

Whereas, the overwhelming victory was a real team effort with Ian Barker, Andrew Young, and Gerald Turner, known as "The Hammers" with six individual state titles among them, who were able to extend the lead for Summerville and stop Rock Hill's momentum; and

Whereas, entering the state finals the heavy favorite, Summerville, did little to sway these high expectations and took home their ninth state wrestling championship title and defeated Rock Hill in a hard fought battle; and

Whereas, under the guidance and wisdom of Head Coach Kenny Walker, the Summerville High School "Green Wave" proved that the win was a result of focusing on being at their best when it counts the most and brought home a winning season with a 21-2 record; and

Whereas, the members of this championship team include T.J. Hall, Derek Freshman, Derek Nelson, Ian Baker, Andrew Young, Greg Matricciano, Robert Welborn, Gerald Turner, Lance Wactor, Jared Wegmenn, Tony Simmons, Brad Kieber, Bryant Blanton, Reggie Henry, Mike Windham, Khalif Chavis, Kenneth Pinckney, and Lenard Mazyck; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the 2003 Summerville wrestling team that captured the third state championship in four years has brought pride to not only Summerville High School, its administration, staff, alumni, students, and loyal fans, but also the members of Dorchester County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina extend their congratulations to the members of the 2003 Summerville High School "Green Wave" Wrestling Team and Head Coach Kenny Walker and his staff for their outstanding championship win in the Class AAAA State Wrestling Championship Competition.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the 2003 Summerville High School Wrestling Team and Head Coach Kenny Walker.
