A JOINT RESOLUTION TO PROVIDE THAT SCHOOL DAYS MISSED IN 2002-2003, BY THE STUDENTS OF THE CHESTER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT WHEN THE SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS MAY BE MADE UP BY EXEMPTING THEM FROM THE MAKE-UP REQUIREMENT OF THE DEFINED MINIMUM PLAN THAT FULL SCHOOL DAYS MISSED DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER OR OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES BE MADE UP, AUTHORIZE EXTENDING THE LENGTH OF SCHOOL DAYS OR MAKE-UP DAYS ON SATURDAYS, OR AUTHORIZE THE DISTRICT TO USE COMBINATIONS OF THESE AS APPROPRIATE, AND TO REQUIRE THE PLANS CHOSEN TO BE APPROVED BY THE LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

School days missed, plan to address

SECTION    1.    (A) Up to three school days missed in 2002-2003, by the students of the Chester County School District when the schools were closed due to inclement weather conditions may be made up by:

(1)    exempting them from the make-up requirements of the defined minimum plan that full school days missed due to extreme weather or other circumstances be made up;

(2)    extending the length of currently scheduled school days equivalent to the amount of time found in a normal instructional day;

(3)    attending school on Saturdays; or

(4)    using a combination of items (1), (2), and (3).

(B)    The local school board shall be responsible for determining and approving the appropriate plan.

Time effective

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
