VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO MISS LINDLEY MAYER OF GREENVILLE ON BEING NAMED ONE OF THE TOP TWO VOLUNTEERS OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN THE EIGHTH ANNUAL PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS PROGRAM.
Whereas, we are extremely proud of all citizens of this State who are dedicated to bringing together the people of their communities and raising awareness about the needs of others in the area; and
Whereas, when those South Carolinians are among the youth of the State, we are convinced of the promise of this generation and their abilities to be future leaders; and
Whereas, Miss Lindley Mayer, 14, of Greenville and a student at Riverside Middle School, is a young woman of many talents who has generously given several hours of her time to various organizations, including serving as a fundraiser and "spokeschild" for the Children's Miracle Network; and
Whereas, Miss Mayer most recently used her leadership abilities and creative mind to develop "Wings of L.O.V.E.", a brochure and program educating the public on children with disabilities and encouraging everyone to be kind to these special young people; and
Whereas, L.O.V.E. stands for laughter, optimism, volunteerism, and enthusiasm. Miss Mayer promotes each of these ideals in her service to children with disabilities by soliciting donations and working offstage during telethons, visiting hospitalized youth, and assisting other patients attending network camps; and
Whereas, Miss Mayer names her two younger siblings as her inspiration for her commitment to community service; and
Whereas, she has been recognized both locally and nationally for her volunteer efforts and for her devotion to this particular project; and
Whereas, most recently, Miss Mayer was named as one of South Carolina's top two youth volunteers in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program, a joint project by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals which recognizes young people across the nation for outstanding community service; and
Whereas, as a state honoree, Miss Mayer is given the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., for a chance to receive the prestigious award of being named a national honoree; and
Whereas, the people of Greenville and of the State of South Carolina are extremely fortunate to have among them such a caring and dedicated young person who is willing to donate her time and energy to helping others. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, wish to extend their most sincere congratulations to Miss Lindley Mayer of Greenville on being named one of the top two volunteers of South Carolina in the eighth annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Lindley Mayer of Greenville.
