A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE TWENTY-ONE SOUTH CAROLINA TECHNICAL COLLEGE STUDENTS NAMED TO SOUTH CAROLINA'S 2004 ALL-STATE ACADEMIC TEAM IN THE ALL-USA ACADEMIC TEAM COMPETITION FOR TECHNICAL COLLEGES, COMMUNITY COLLEGES, AND JUNIOR COLLEGES SPONSORED BY PHI THETA KAPPA, THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES, AND USA TODAY.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note with pride the visit to the State House on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, of the twenty-one members of South Carolina's 2004 All-State Academic Team; and

Whereas, these outstanding students from South Carolina's technical colleges were chosen for this honor by the state's technical college presidents on the basis of academic performance, leadership accomplishments, and service to their colleges and local communities, with no more than two members selected from a particular college campus; and

Whereas, the All-State Academic Team competition is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College, to bring statewide recognition to outstanding technical, community, and junior college students; and

Whereas, these students were South Carolina's representatives in the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the American Association of Community Colleges, and USA Today; and

Whereas, their outstanding records make them worthy representatives of this State and pride in their accomplishments can be shared not only by them and their families, but also by all South Carolinians; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may add their voices to the choruses of congratulations to these outstanding South Carolina technical college students. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their heartiest congratulations to the twenty-one South Carolina technical college students named to South Carolina's 2004 All-State Academic Team in the All-USA Academic Team competition for technical colleges, community colleges, and junior colleges sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the American Association of Community Colleges, and USA Today.
