TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE COACH RICHARD "DICKIE" MCCUTCHEN OF ROBERT E. LEE ACADEMY FOR HIS THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, TO THANK HIM FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Richard "Dickie" McCutchen joined the faculty of Robert E. Lee Academy in 1970, and over the years he has served as coach, athletic director, teacher, headmaster, and assistant headmaster; and
Whereas, prior to teaching at Robert E. Lee, Mr. McCutchen spent ten years in the public education system, and he was teaching at Bishopville High School when he was approached with the opportunity to be a head coach and to start an athletic program at Robert E. Lee; and
Whereas, after joining the faculty at Robert E. Lee, Mr. McCutchen quickly gained the respect and admiration of the students; and
Whereas, over the past thirty-four years, Mr. McCutchen has coached football, girls and boys basketball, and as athletic director, and estimates that his teams won about seventy percent of their games; and
Whereas, two years ago, the school expressed its appreciation for Mr. McCutchen by naming their football field, "Richard P. McCutchen Field"; and
Whereas, with a strong love for both the school and the families that attend Robert E. Lee Academy, Mr. McCutchen has touched every life that has had the opportunity to come into his presence, and he has left a lasting impression on the community of Bishopville as well; and
Whereas, his ability to relate to people always at the forefront of his personality, Mr. McCutchen instantly relates to both students and faculty and he will be sorely missed upon his retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Coach Richard "Dickie" McCutchen of Robert E. Lee Academy for his thirty-four years of dedicated service and thank him for his commitment to education and extend best wishes to him upon his retirement.
