VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MR. JOHN WILLIAMS, JR., FOR HIS EIGHT YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND HIS LIFETIME COMMITMENT TO THE EDUCATION OF OUR STATE'S SONS AND DAUGHTERS, AND TO WISH HIM WELL IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Mr. John Williams, Jr., was born on December 15, 1938, in Easley, and graduated from Sterling High School in Greenville in 1957; and
Whereas, in 1962, Mr. Williams received a Bachelor of Science degree from South Carolina State University, and in 1971 received a Masters Degree in Industrial Education from Clemson University; and
Whereas, from 1962-1965 he served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Army; and
Whereas, from 1965-1967 he served as an Industrial Arts Teacher, Athletic Director, Head Football Coach, Head Basketball Coach, and Assistant Track and Field Coach in Spartanburg County School District 7; and
Whereas, from 1967-1970 Mr. Williams was an Industrial Arts Teacher, Head Track and Field Coach, and Assistant Football Coach for Ware Shoals School District 51; and
Whereas, from 1971-1973 he served as an Industrial Arts Teacher in the Greenville County School System; and
Whereas, from 1973-1975 he served as a Director of Vocational Education for the Beaufort County School System; and
Whereas, from 1975-1995 he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Electrical Engineering Technology at South Carolina State University; and
Whereas, he has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career which include: the Greenville County Teacher of the Year Award for 1972-1973, and being inducted into the Piedmont Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2003; and
Whereas, in 1996 Mr. Williams was appointed to the South Carolina State University Board of Trustees and has served as a member of the Board for the past eight years; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to thank Mr. John Williams, Jr., for his service to the State of South Carolinas as a member of the South Carolina State University Board of Trustees, as well as his lifetime commitment towards the education of our sons and daughters on both the grade-school level and post-secondary level. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Mr. John Williams, Jr., for his eight years of exemplary service as a member of South Carolina State University Board of Trustees and his lifetime commitment to the education of our state's sons and daughters, and wish him well in all of his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. John Williams, Jr.
