TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF LIEUTENANT JIMMY LEE JETER, JR., OF CHESTER, A BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS FIREFIGHTER, ON FRIDAY APRIL 16, 2004, AND CONVEY THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Lieutenant Jeter of Chester at the age of forty-eight; and
Whereas, he was a 1974 graduate of Chester High School and a graduate of the South Carolina Fire Academy; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Jeter was a twenty-year veteran of the Chester Fire Department; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Jeter served the Chester community unselfishly and with great skill and dedication; and
Whereas, throughout his twenty years of service, Lieutenant Jeter continuously showed tremendous courage in the face of danger; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Jeter was well known for his compassion and generosity; and
Whereas, he was actively involved in Union Baptist Church, where he was a member, sang in the choir, was a member of both the Usher Board and the Church Trustee Board, and was church treasurer; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Jeter lived life to the fullest, worked part time for the Chester Telephone Company, and was a member of the Men's Progressive Club of Chester; and
Whereas, he was s devoted and loving husband to his wife Patricia, a loving father to his two daughters Sabrina and Tina, and was devoted to his granddaughters; and
Whereas, it is both proper and fitting that the members of the South Carolina Senate pause in their deliberations to note the passing of this dedicated firefighter and son of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate express the profound sorrow upon the death of Lieutenant Jimmy Lee Jeter, Jr., of Chester, a brave and courageous firefighter, on Friday, April 16, 2004, and convey their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Patricia Jeter.
