A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 14-1-213 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT AN ADDITIONAL TWENTY-FIVE DOLLAR FINE MUST BE IMPOSED ON A PERSON WHO COMMITS CERTAIN TRAFFIC OFFENSES, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE FINE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 1, Title 14 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 14-1-213.    In addition to any other fine imposed upon a person for committing a traffic offense, excluding a violation of a provision contained in Title 56, Chapter 5, Article 48, a twenty-five dollar fine must be imposed upon a person convicted of the offense. This fine must be transferred to the state, county, or municipal governmental body whose law enforcement division charged the individual with the offense and must be used for law enforcement officers salary increases, to hire additional law enforcement officers, and to purchase law enforcement equipment."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
