To whom was referred a Bill (H. 3681) to amend Section 20-7-1572, as amended, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating to grounds for termination of parental rights, so as to, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 20-7-1572, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO GROUNDS FOR TERMINATION OF PARENTAL RIGHTS, SO AS TO INCLUDE AS SUCH GROUND, THE CONVICTION OF A PARENT FOR THE MURDER OF THE CHILD'S OTHER PARENT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 20-7-1572 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 104 of 1999, is further amended by adding an appropriately numbered item to read:

"( )    A parent of the child pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is convicted of the murder of the child's other parent."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
