TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE DEWITT MIZE, OCONEE COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL, FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER OF PUBLIC SERVICE UPON HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned with regret that Dewitt Mize, Oconee County Fire Marshal, will be retiring on May 2, 2003; and
Whereas, Dewitt Mize has had a remarkable fire service career, being only the second Oconee County Fire Marshal since the rural fire system was established in 1962; and
Whereas, he first became involved with fire service as a member of the Cross Roads Volunteer Fire Department in 1967, where he was fire chief for two years; and
Whereas, Dewitt Mize also served as vice chairman of the county fire commission for four years and as chairman for four years where under his leadership the commission made significant improvements in the delivery of needed services to the residents of Oconee County; and
Whereas, he is also a widely respected community leader serving as a deacon of Cross Roads Baptist Church, a member of Oconee County Cattlemen's Association, and as a member and past master of Townville Masonic Lodge; and
Whereas, he and his lovely wife, the former Lou Williams, have two wonderful children and five grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to thank him on behalf of the citizens of Oconee County for his truly outstanding service as county fire marshal, and for his other fire service work in the county on the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable Dewitt Mize, Oconee County Fire Marshal, for his distinguished career of public service upon his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dewitt Mize.
