TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES CORPORAL GENE MORRIS OF MANNING FOR BEING CHOSEN AS OFFICER OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER 2002 BY THE NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER'S MEMORIAL AND WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial began as an organization that memorialized fallen officers for the contributions they made to law enforcement; and
Whereas, today the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial also recognizes active officers who have experienced major law enforcement incidents or officers who have made major contributions in the field of law enforcement; and
Whereas, for brave acts which went above and beyond the call of duty Corporal Gene Morris of Manning was honored by the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial as their September 2002 Officer of the Month. He was recognized along with eleven fellow law enforcement officers from throughout the United States in Washington, D. C. during Police Week held from May 12 through May 16; and
Whereas, in addition to this honor Corporal Morris has received numerous others which include the Medal of Valor from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, and Honorable Mention for the Top Cop Award for South Carolina from the National Association of Police Officers; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly believe that it is fitting and proper to commend Corporal Morris for receiving national recognition for his heroic acts. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Corporal Gene Morris of Manning for being chosen as Officer of the Month for September 2002 by the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and wish him continued success in all future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Corporal Gene Morris.
