A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. JULIA MAE FORTUNE SCOTT OF LEE COUNTY ON MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2003, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the death of Julia Mae Fortune Scott of Lee County on Monday, June 30, 2003, and her leadership and kind acts will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and her community; and

Whereas, the daughter of Julia Toney Fortune and the late Jeremiah Fortune, Mrs. Scott was born April 7, 1949 and joined the New Zion AME Church in Wisacky, South Carolina at an early age; and

Whereas, after attending the public schools of Lee County, Mrs. Scott attended Mount Pleasant High School and graduated in 1967; and

Whereas, upon graduation, Mrs. Scott left South Carolina and took a job in New York with the New York Telephone Company, working for the company until she moved to New Jersey; and

Whereas, Mrs. Scott returned home to South Carolina, settling in Elliott in 1986, where she remained for the rest of her life; and

Whereas, as a devoted daughter, thoughtful sister, gracious mother, loving wife, and true friend, Mrs. Scott will be remembered and cherished by all those who knew her, and her memory will live on in their hearts; and

Whereas, Mrs. Scott is survived by her mother, Julia Fortune of Bishopville, her husband, William Claude Scott of Elliott, her daughter, Robin Clausell Colston of Lamar, her son, Fitzgerald Wilson of Bishopville, and two step-daughters, Judy Anthony Fleming of Elliott and Linda James Burgess of North Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Julia Mae Fortune Scott of Lee County on Monday, June 30, 2003, and convey deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. William Claude Scott of Elliott.
