TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE BROOKLAND-CAYCE HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND THEIR HEAD COACH, JOHN CHECKOVICH, AND ASSISTANT COACH, NINYA CHECKOVICH, ON WINNING THE 2003 CLASS AAA GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND DEDICATION TO BECOME A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and
Whereas, to be a champion in volleyball, all members of the team and coaching staff must have outstanding leadership skills and physical abilities; and
Whereas, under the guidance and leadership of Head Coach John Checkovich and Assistant Coach Ninya Checkovich, the girls varsity volleyball team of Brookland-Cayce High School faced intimidating opponents and tough matches but were rewarded with the chance to become State Champions; and
Whereas, in their journey to the championship, this team enjoyed success in several competitions, placing second in the White Knoll Midseason Tournament, and winning the Region V Class AAA championship; and
Whereas, this outstanding team defeated Timberland High School to take the Lower State Championship, which led to their resounding victory over Daniel High School in the State Championship; and
Whereas, with their win at the state championship, the Brookland-Cayce Girls Varsity Volleyball Team sealed their great season with their twentieth victory, bringing their overall record to 20-3 for the 2003 season; and
Whereas, the Brookland-Cayce Girls Varsity Volleyball Team brought great pride to not only themselves and their friends and families but also to the students, faculty, alumni, and staff of Brookland-Cayce High School and the community as a whole; and
Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Eva Akins, Merebeth Cleland, Sarah Conwell, Ashleigh Darden, Candace Henderson, Amanda Holyfield, Marta Kohn, Sarah Lusk, Jamie Oren, Natasha Parker, Tiffany Perkins, Kayla Smith, and Sarah Young; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use their athletic skills and abilities to win many more championships in the future. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Brookland-Cayce High School Varsity Girls Volleyball Team and their Head Coach, John Checkovich, and Assistant Coach, Ninya Checkovich, on winning the 2003 Class AAA Girls Varsity Volleyball State Championship and to commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and dedication to become a championship team.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Brookland-Cayce High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team.
